Description
This course provides an overview of The Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock (Sepsis-3), specifically designed for EMS providers. The session begins with a historical look at sepsis and progresses to the recent assessment guidelines and treatment strategies. Recent recommendations supplementing the consensus report are also included to provide a comprehensive understanding of sepsis management.
Attendees will explore key topics, including case presentations, the history of sepsis identification, and the definition of sepsis and septic shock. The course will cover the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) tools, as well as appropriate prehospital interventions. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to define sepsis and septic shock, identify high-risk patients, describe potential prehospital interventions, and understand the components of the qSOFA process, enhancing their ability to make informed decisions in the field.
